1 – Walking in the snow
(New Year’s Day–2006)
The winter wind whistles, harmoniously
with merry snowmen, miles long–
and my shoes, like car tires
stick to the ground–, they split through
off the whiteness.
The day is calm. No birds fly
in the sky. Hercules
is asleep. It must be this snow
we have to balance our balance,
this snow: calm, white and cold.

Author’s Note: “On my way to the bookstore in Roseville, Minnesota today (New Year’s Day), my wife told me how beautiful the trees were, all covered in white snow from the night before, from tip to every branch to toe.”

El viento de invierno silva, armoniosamente

El día es tranquilo. Ningún Pájaro Vuela
a través del cielo Hercules

2 – After a long day
I start reading and writing every day
to my computer and then to the coffee shop
and back to my house – in between
from three to ten hours a day, sometimes I see
moon before I see the afternoon sun
plowing through the leaves of words
and books, papers and napkins.
Suppose my house burns down?
And the cafe locked its doors tight?
Every day I don’t read or write
off!…

3 – Sleepy Winter Wife
Every night the first face I see sleeping
Is my wife…
I decided to leave him sleeping on the couch
A chair – a warm cozy fireplace.
He often peeks in to see if I’m still there
Busy writing or reading on my computer.
Then he falls into a deep sleep again.
Like a little angry bear hibernating…
I can’t complain much, I’ve been blessed;
Thus I watch the house at midnight,
Wake him up and like a train, hook him to sleep.
