The 7 Most Unusual Hotels in the World

I don’t know about you, but I’m really sick of the same old vacation spots! Yes, the golden sand and clear, warm water are very attractive. Yes, the clear mountain air invites you to explore everything. But the problem is that sometimes you just want something different and the usual vacation spot just doesn’t cut it anymore!

Here are 7 of the world’s most unusual hotels, offering you a possible destination for your next great vacation:

1. Woodpecker Hotel (Västeras, Sweden)

Are you afraid of heights? If yes, this hotel is definitely not for you! The Woodpecker Hotel is located 13 meters (42 feet) above the ground in a 130-year-old oak tree in Vasaparken park.

This is the work of Swedish artist Mikael Genberg, who originally designed the hotel to be free for all. It soon became clear that everyone wanted to sleep there, so they started charging.

The hotel is very small (taking into account the restrictions), it is not without its comforts: toilet, small kitchen, library, comfortable bed and chair and table on the veranda.

2. Utter Inn (Stockholm, Sweden)

Utter Inn is yet another one of Mikael Genberg’s creations in his inimitable style. The Utter Inn is an underwater floating hotel with a typical Swedish red house at the top and an aquarium as a bedroom.

Guests are taken by boat to the hotel, given instructions and then left alone. If they choose the deluxe package, they also get dinner delivered by boat.

How much for the night? $350, but the experience is worth much, much more!

3. Dog Bark Park Inn (Indiana, USA)

Do you love beagles? Well, I have found the perfect hotel for you! Dog Bark Park Inn is a bed & breakfast inn inside the world’s largest Beagle.

And they’re not kidding—it’s a 2-story building with most of the amenities you’ll need: queen bed, full bath, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, hair dryer, books, games, and puzzles. Unfortunately, there is no telephone or television.

4. Ice Hotel (Quebec, Canada)

While ice hotels aren’t exactly a new concept, the Quebec hotel is a unique structure in Canada, and the fact that it only exists between January 5th and April 1st makes it even more exclusive.

Made entirely of ice and snow, the hotel is 5.5 meters high and has 18 rooms and 14 themed suites, a reception room, a chapel and an Absolut Ice Bar.

Prices for a fireplace room go up to $475 and include everything from drinks to mattresses and sheets to keep you warm.

5. Woodlyn Park (Otorohanga, New Zealand)

Woodly Park, owned by Billy Black, gives you the chance to stay in one of their 3 unique motels: an underground hobbit motel (straight out of Tolkien’s books, round windows and all), a converted railcar with 3 rooms and a 1950s Bristol Freighter, fully renovated.

But that’s not the only attraction: Woodlyn Park is the only place in New Zealand where you can drive a jet boat with over 100 hp on a specially designed track.

6. Kokopelli Cave (Farmington, USA)

If you suddenly feel the strange urge to go back to the Stone Age, why not vacation at Kokopelli Cave, a privately owned luxury rock house located north of Farmington, New Mexico near Mesa Verde National Monument.

You’ll stay in a 155 square meter (155 square meter) one-bedroom cave home carved out of a 65-million-year-old sandstone formation.

The view here is incredible: 280 feet drop down to the La Plata River, west to Shiprock and Chuska Mountains on the Navajo Reservation, northwest to the Ute Mountains, and north to the La Plata and San Juan Mountains.

All this for only about $280 per night – a real bargain if you ask me!

7. Propeller Island City Lodge (Berlin, Germany)

This is the perfect place if you like art and quirky interiors. When you look at the room selection, you’re bound to find at least one you love and at least one you hate.

Some rooms are brightly painted, some have patterns that will make you dizzy, others are simple and calm, and some are just plain weird.

Do you want to experience sleeping on a prisoner’s back, in a coffin or even in lion cages? You can get it all, one night at a time of course, in the same hotel! And the prices are only around $150!

As you can see, these are all great destinations that are almost guaranteed to provide an unforgettable vacation.
