Lord Swaminarayan – For Protection of Spiritual Law and Devotion
Lord Swaminarayan was the son of Dharamdev and Bhakti Mata, born in the village of Chappaya near Ayodhya (district in northern India) on April 2, 1781.
He left his home and went to the forest at the age of 11 for a better humanity. He started the journey with only dhoti (loincloth) and kamandal in hand. His journey of 7 years, 1 month and 11 days took place all over India. He traveled to the Himalayas in the north, Rameshwar temple in the south, Goddess Kamakshi temple on the banks of the Ganges in the east and finally ended at Loj (village near the somnath temple) after visiting the Somnath temple of Lord Shiva to the west. He walked almost 8000 miles barefoot.
During his journey, he enriched society with purity of thoughts, food, habits, the removal of tobacco and alcohol addiction, blind beliefs, immortality, inertia, corruption, theft and dacoit, etc.
Ramanand Swami, his preceptor (guru) gave him control and management of all religious discipline in Udhava when Lord Swaminarayan was only 21 years old.
What does Lord Swaminarayan do?
As in his previous incarnation as Lord Krishna, the demons destroyed as Lord Swaminarayan destroyed demonic inclinations and turned to the divine.
He lifted the barrier between the upper class (Brahmin) and the backward class (Shudra).
He stopped killing animals especially as an offering in front of deities or a god.
Many welfare activities like creating free food centers, reservoirs, wells and temples.
Rules to follow
Follow Spiritual Law and Stay Devoted to God
The main thing is that it must be done by all of us for the beautiful humanity
- DO NOT drink wine, alcohol or drugs of any kind, in any form, NOT even as medicine.
- DO NOT eat meat in any form. NOT even as offerings from evil deities or sacrifice or as medicine to save one’s own life.
- Abstain from adultery. DO NOT stay in close contact with women except the closest relatives.
- DO NOT steal anything. Even worthless flowers should NOT be taken as offerings to deities without the permission of the owner.
- DO NOT take food and drink from inappropriate people and inappropriate sources.
11 daily rules that followers of Lord Swaminarayan must follow:
- Be non-violent by all means.
- Don’t have any kind of relationship with any women other than your wife.
- Do not eat meat, that is, including seafood, poultry products, eggs.
- Do not drink alcohol-containing products, i.e. wine, beer, drugs containing alcohol.
- Never touch a widowed woman you don’t know.
- Never commit suicide under any circumstances.
- Don’t steal things that belong to others.
- Never blame others for something you may not know.
- Never bad mouth about God, goddesses or any religion.
- Never eat the food of anyone who does not follow these eleven rules laid down by Lord Shree Swaminarayan in Shikshapatri.
- Never listen to the holy stories of a person who does not believe in the existence of God, that is, a person who is an atheist.
