Teddy Bear

What is a teddy bear?

A teddy bear is a stuffed toy. It is usually stuffed with soft, comfortable cotton and has soft, smooth fur and is covered with plush in the shape of a crotch. These are served for the purpose of entertaining children. They come in different styles and dressed in many different clothes by people.

Story

Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th President of the United States, is the person responsible for giving the name. His nickname was “Teddy”. On November 14, 1902, Roosevelt, invited by Mississippi Governor Andrew H. Longino, was helping settle a border dispute between Mississippi and Louisiana. He attended a bear hunt with several other hunters in Mississippi in his spare time. After a long, grueling chase with dogs, a retinue of Roosevelt agents cornered, clubbed, and tied an American black bear to a willow tree. Roosevelt came upon the injured young bear and ordered the animal killed out of mercy, spoke the immortal words: “Spare the bear! I will not shoot a tethered animal.” The Washington Post published an editorial cartoon titled “Drawing the Line in Mississippi” which is created by political cartoonist Clifford K. Berryman on November 16, 1902. This incident illustrated the event. The cartoon depicts both the state line dispute and the bear hunt.

In Berryman’s drawing, the bear was drawn as a fierce animal where the bear had just killed a hunting dog. But later, Berryman redesigned the bear and gave it a little cuddle. The cartoon became popular and Morris Michtom saw the drawing of Roosevelt and the bear cub. And then he was inspired to create a new children’s toy called the teddy bear. Michtom owned a small novelty and candy store in Brooklyn, New York. Michtom sent Roosevelt a bear that was listed for sale in their store and asked permission to use the teddy bear’s name. Roosevelt said yes. A company called Butler Brothers and Michtom began mass-producing the teddy bear. Within a year, Michtom started his own company called Ideal Novelty and Toy Company. At the same time, in Germany, a company called Steiff was making a teddy bear based on Richard Steiff’s designs. In March 1903, at the Leipzig Toy Fair, Steiff exhibited the toy in an exhibition. Hermann Berg, who was a buyer for George Borgfeldt & Company in New York, saw the toy. He ordered 3,000 to be sent to the United States. Many unusual teddy bears were also introduced around this time, so a “Laughing Roosevelt Bear” was designed to replicate President Roosevelt’s toothy smile, an “Electric Eye” Bear had a mechanism in its stomach which, when pressed, activated lights in his eyes. , a self-whistling bear produced a whistling sound when knocked down and upright again and so on. Teddy bear images have become visible on many other consumer goods, including baby rattles, car accessories, puzzles, greeting cards, postcards, covers for some hot water bottles, clothing printed by some textile factories, etc. John W. Bratton composed ‘The Teddy Bear Two-Step’, later to become famous as the tune to ‘The Teddy Bear’s Picnic’ in 1907, which is given below: ‘If you go down into the woods today today you’re sure to be in for a big surprise If you go down to the woods today You better go in disguise For all the bears there ever were Will gather there for sure ’cause Today is the day the teddy bears have their picnic If you go down to the woods today You’re sure to get a big surprise If you go down to the woods today You better go in disguise For all the bears out there ‘there ever Will gather there for sure because Today is the day the teddy bears have their picnic At six o’clock their moms and dads will take them home to bed Because they are little ones tired teddy bears”

Raw materials

The original teddy bears were made with mohair fabric “fur” and black leather shoe button eyes. In the 1920s, glass eyes were used. But the glass and button eyes can be removed easily. In 1948, Wendy Boston patented a nylon screw-on eye, and safety eyes became standard in the 1960s. Companies using this process today have replaced plastic discs. But the production is almost entirely by hand and has been relatively expensive so far. Today, the materials for making Teddy Bears truths are the most varied in fabric. Recently synthetics, Angora which is goat wool, rayon, sheep wool, silk, fiber combinations, nylon are used as materials. Velvet or cotton velor instead of silk or synthetic materials is valued for its softness. Today, certain fabrics like corduroy, denim, velor, terrycloth, and calico are popular basics for bears.

Design and production

The design and production of teddy bears requires special attention throughout the manufacturing process. It is very important that the product gives and receives a lot of love over the years of its life. Thus, the manufacturer must take care of all the manufacturing stages. There are different names, different models such as chocolate and pink, gund manni, goober, papa minky, jumbu minky, grandma butter, grandma smoky, giant, brighton gund, grandma fresca, beamerzzz flashlight, jumbo blue, melissa and doug, snuggle ups , braden snuggle ups plush panda Teddy Bear etc.

Conclusion

Almost every year, teddy bear festivals are held. These have now become popular around the world, taking place in Canada, Australia, Japan, America, Britain and Germany. We now know that the teddy bear is the most popular plush toy, and perhaps the most popular of all toys.
