Technology Surrounds Everyone
Since the beginning of the world, technology surrounds these individuals in this society. Early societies developed fire and even an irrigation system to ensure all their crops were well watered and tended to ensure the village was well fed. In the present, technology is everywhere. This sudden spurt of growth, in a technological sense, has exploded beyond belief in recent years. People used to get along just fine without cell phones, mp3 players, iPods and personal computers. These days, take someone’s cell phone away and they’re lost. Most people would agree that technology is a huge help, but sometimes what is so useful and convenient, prevents society as a whole from advancing communication with others around them.
With the formation of electronic mail, there has been a distinct loss of handwritten letters as well as telephone calls. Connecting with people on a personal level is no more. Handwritten letters to friends or family have almost disappeared. What was once appreciated and eagerly awaited has become unattractive for the younger generation to take a few extra minutes to answer the envelope. Typing a few sentences and then clicking several times with the mouse takes at least a few seconds. The sincerity of it all is lost.
When you want to get in touch with people, dropping an email has somehow become an acceptable way to handle things, even if it was considered too rude at one point. Often people think that an email is a faster way to respond or get information whereas picking up a phone and dialing a number is easier and can be faster.
This one example has left this world in a heist. When some of the younger generations come into contact with the older ones, they don’t know how to communicate effectively and effectively with each other. There is a lack of communication within the company. Most of those entering high school can’t even process speech to older people and don’t even know what a handwritten letter is. There’s too much typing and computer processing on display and not enough thought-provoking tasks like a good old-fashioned grade. Nothing is personal and comforting anymore. Words typed by a computer are seen as hard and cold with no meaning behind them.
Everyone caught in this whirlwind is also a speed demon. Most people with these new technologies, because they are so immediate in their treatment, are impatient and unruly. If something is not done immediately, they start to snap and become irritable.
Many of these technologies, such as the personal computer or the cell phone, have also caused an increase in ADD, or attention deficit disorder. Many children and even adults have too many things to do, that they can’t concentrate on one thing for a long time.
Family time also slips in many ways. The kids are either on the computer, talking to their friends or in their room listening to music and whatever, on their mp3 players. Parents are doing what they need to do as well. This leaves the family members alone, with no human interaction. Days of board games and family get-togethers are almost non-existent.
There are, of course, good things about this rise in technology. Information can be sent faster, files, etc. can be shared with family at a faster rate. If a grandparent lives 600 miles away and their grandchild is born, they can immediately see the baby if they both have a webcam, unlike waiting for the courier for photos and whatever weeks later. This is just a short example; there are, of course, millions more.
Yes, there are some good things that have come from the new wave of technological advancements; however, there is more harm to be done. Families are seeing each other less and less and not spending real, quality time with each other. Personal relationships are also nearly eradicated from the new culture. People are now, more than ever, impatient and want everything done yesterday. Unfortunately, you have to take the good with the bad, however, sometimes the obstacles outweigh the progress.
