AAU Basketball – The Greatest Advantage and Hidden Risk of AAU Basketball Teams
The importance of AAU basketball has gone beyond the world of high school basketball. It changed the way high school players get a college basketball scholarship. If you want to give yourself the best opportunity to succeed in today’s murky world of basketball, start by understanding these truths.
Unfortunately, high school basketball took precedence over the AAU. In general, high school provides a better environment to grow as a basketball player (according to the coach). More practices, better team chemistry, deeper understanding of basketball concepts, community involvement, representing your school, etc.
The biggest problem is that high school season takes place during college season.
College head coaches are not primarily focused on recruiting during these months. They can’t be. Every coach at the college level is extremely competitive and dedicated. They’re constantly focused on their team throughout the season, and if they’re not, they’ll lose games…and then their jobs.
Once the college season is over, their main focus turns to recruiting. College coaches know that recruiting is the lifeblood of their team. If they don’t have talent, their coaching career will be short-lived.
Enter AAU basketball.
The AAU allows college coaches to see players compete at a high level during the off-season. That’s the biggest advantage AAU basketball has over high school basketball…and it’s a huge advantage.
If you want to play college basketball, be on a good AAU team that goes to big tournaments off season.
It’s common sense: the more opportunities you have to play in front of college coaches, the more they will notice your basketball skills and start recruiting you. Once you get noticed, the momentum will build on itself.
But here’s the catch:
AAU Basketball DOES NOT INCREASE YOUR INDIVIDUAL BASKETBALL SKILLS.
Before the AAU boom, players didn’t have year-round off-season practices and games. There was time to practice and improve your individual basketball skills.
At the moment, gamers are getting lost while playing many games. The problem with playing games all year round is the PRACTICE OF COACH DESIGNS NOT FOR THE INDIVIDUAL PLAYER, BUT FOR THE TEAM.
So if you play all year in an AAU team, you are not developing your skills enough. Just because you’re part of a team doesn’t guarantee anything.
Two team practices per week will not help you individually as a basketball player!
You have to enter a gym and train. Period.
Every year I improved tremendously as a player because I was constantly training with a basketball plan. Ultimately, my superior basketball skills earned me a Division 1, Full-ride college basketball scholarship.
The good news is that you can always improve as a basketball player. The method to constantly improve as a basketball player is quite simple:
BASKETBALL PRACTICES (constantly, intensely and correctly) + PLAYING AGAINST GREAT PLAYERS = PROGRESSION TOWARDS YOUR BASKETBALL GOALS
This method will never get old throughout your basketball career. At each level you access, continue to use this method.
AAU basketball is key to advancing your basketball career after high school. It is important to join a respected AAU program with a quality coach. But that’s not all, YOU MUST TRAIN CONSTANTLY throughout the offseason on your individual basketball skills. The combination of these two aspects will greatly increase your chances of getting a college basketball scholarship. It won’t be easy, but that’s what makes it so valuable and rewarding. Start today!
