Conditioners for thick hair or olive oil or mayonnaise or creams for heavy hair can be applied to your child’s head and left on for about two hours. Then, using an anti-lice shampoo, rinse the hair thoroughly and comb out the dead lice and nits. A good lice comb with fine teeth that will cut through the length of the hair, easily removing dead lice and nits is definitely better than your regular comb.

After checking your whole family for head lice, make sure they don’t share anything with your child. For example, towels, clothes, and sheets can contain plump nits, and you might not even notice them because they’re so small.

Finally, disinfect your home and be sure to get rid of dirt and anything else that could transmit lice from head to head, even though lice are attracted to clean, silky hair.
