7 Tips For Recovery From Triathlon Training & Racing

1) Static stretch.

Raising your legs after a job can also help. I’ve used this tactic and find it works for me and the athletes I train. The idea is to empty your legs. According to one of Joe Friels books, for every hour of training, keep them elevated for 5 minutes. So 3 hours = 15 minutes of elevation gain.

6) Compression socks.

It’s new but I think it has merit. Often after a hard day of training, I find that my ankles and lower shin can look swollen and feel stiffer. Compression socks helped me. I store them after training.

I also use the socks while traveling and it has helped keep the swelling to a minimum. I know some pros do this and I’m sure some of you triathletes have seen people wearing these knee high socks in races. I haven’t taken them out for this yet as I think it will take me too long to transition them and I want my legs to breathe.

7) Food

The nutrition is also huge. There are many great nutrition resources out there. The body needs all the proper nutrients to heal and recover effectively. It is therefore necessary to have a well-balanced diet. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables!
