10 Best Mobile Apps for Parents
Many parents today, just like me, are using modern technologies to make the parenting process a little easier. For example, one of the most commonly used tools today are apps. Yes, applications that we can download directly to our mobile devices. I’m always installing and uninstalling apps as I try to use my cell phone and tablets storage space for the apps I need the most. So this weekend, as I was updating my apps and deleting the ones that no longer served me, I decided to compile this list of the top 10 apps for parents in no particular order. (Remember, I’m an iPhone user, so all apps mentioned might not be available on Android).
What to expect – Pregnancy and baby: I used this app while carrying my youngest daughter (she is now one year old). For those who are waiting, this app has a great day-by-day and week-by-week guide with photos and you will receive personalized updates based on your due date. I love this feature! It also gives you the ability to connect with other moms, which is nice.
Daily Parenting Reminder, One Tip: This app sends one parenting tip to your phone every day as a calendar reminder – you don’t even have to open the app. I’m always looking for more parenting knowledge so this was great for me.
Baby Tracker & Digital Scrapbook – Kidfolio Pro: This app is definitely one of my favorites. It lets you track your baby’s health and development, from growth and vaccinations to feedings, diaper changes, pumping sessions, and more. This app really helps keep everything you need to remember about your child organized. As a bonus, you will also receive information about the development stages. You can also capture some milestones on the camera and organize them into an album! This is just a great app for tips and recommendations and for socializing with other parents. I love it.
Yuggler-Fun Activities for Kids and Family – This is a really cool app for finding kid-friendly activities near you. It’s great for active families and with the recent update, they now have user-built Top Charts for kids’ activities. It’s super convenient.
Flashcards of Animal Pictures and Tools for Babies and Toddlers by Open Solutions – This app does a great job of entertaining my 1 year old and it’s not at all difficult to navigate. It’s also a great app to encourage speech in your young child while helping them associate a picture with the actual word. Your child can learn the sound an animal makes, the correct way to pronounce its name (in different languages) and even how to spell it!
Preschool and Kindergarten Learning Games by Kevin Bradford LLC – My 4 year old daughter really enjoys using this app – it keeps her busy on car trips and is very educational. These games focus on things like counting, alphabet, addition, subtraction, spelling, etc.
Bipfun Baby Monitor Lite – This is a really cool baby monitor that can be downloaded for free. You can see AND talk to your baby through this app. It also offers different animal night lights on the screen to comfort your little one.
Cozi Family Organizer – Great way to merge the whole family’s calendars and keep track of scheduled activities and events. You can also share and update grocery lists and to-do lists, which is a really cool feature. However, I will just tell you that there are no privacy settings on the app yet. So it would be best to only include reminders and things you want the whole family to know.
Chorma for Chores – This is a very good app to involve the whole household in assigning chores and also tracking chores that get cancelled. I no longer have the app as my daughters are too young to use it, but it is great for families with older children.
Phone for Kids – All-in-One Activity Center for Kids: This app is a must have for me because my 1 year old loves playing on my phone and pretending (well, sometimes she doesn’t pretend) to call people. She is in love with this app and so am I. She can pretend to text and talk on the phone and there are also other fun little games built in.
These are just a few of my personal favorites. Feel free to share some of your own suggestions in the comments!
