Health Tips for Kids in Winters
With winter comes flu, cough, fever and all those unpleasant diseases. All winter fun is ruined when the kids are sick. There are several reasons why children get sick more easily than adults, and one of them is their weak immune system. Children, especially toddlers and preschoolers, are sensitive and require extra care. In this post, I’m going to tell you five ways to protect your children in winter.
1. Give them enough sleep
When winter comes, kids get excited and hyperactive. They just want to go out and play in the snow or with the school playground equipment. Just like other seasons, little ones need the right amount of sleep in winter to stay healthy.
What’s more, our bodies inevitably need more sleep when the days get shorter and the nights get longer. However, children need it more than adults, so get enough sleep in winter.
2. Keep them hydrated
Children don’t usually feel thirsty in winter, but their bodies need enough water to stay hydrated and function properly. Children forget to drink water almost all day and this makes them sick very quickly. Keep a 1.5 bottle for each child and ask them to finish it during the day. Challenge them and promise chocolate or favorite snacks to whoever finishes first.
3. Seasonal dishes
Nature provides us with food that meets seasonal needs. Nature gives us these fruits according to the needs of the season. In winter, when there is a cold breeze outside, we need to stay warm inside, and these foods perform this function for us. All food should be cooked before eating to get the best flavor and nutrition. Little ones stay healthy and warm and their energy stores are replenished when you feed them seasonal foods.
4. Additional vitamins
Even though vitamins are needed all year round, more are needed in winter, when diseases are likely to attract, because the immune system works at a slow pace. Vitamins, especially vitamin D, strengthen children’s immune systems, which in turn help them fight diseases. Give them enough sunlight or vitamin D3 supplements to make up for the deficiency. What’s more, vitamin C is also necessary for strengthening the immune system, so make sure to give them vitamin-rich food in winter.
5. Wash your hands
Not just for winter, but for all seasons of the year. In winter, however, it should be stricter because of the surrounding cold and flu, and children are likely to attract infections. Make it a habit and don’t let them come to the dinner table without washing their hands, especially if they’ve been messing around in playground structures. When you teach them to wash their hands, tell them the reason and importance of it.
So are you ready to protect your children from infections this winter by following the above tips?
