Soft Drinks – Dangerous to Your Health – Kids Are the Target!

Warnings about the dangers of soft drink consumption came to us in 1942, when the American Medical Association (AMA) Council on Food and Nutrition made the following noble statement:

“It is particularly desirable from a health point of view to limit the use of sugar in the form of sweetened carbonated drinks and low-nutrition confectionery. The Council believes that this would be in the best interest of sugar consumption. As our children are exposed to the relief of soft drinks, evidence of their dangers is mounting. Drinking soft drinks is fraught with dangers. We, as practitioners and supporters of a healthy lifestyle, admit that even consuming one or two soft drinks a day is undeniably linked to countless diseases.

The most commonly associated health risks are obesity, diabetes and other blood sugar disorders, tooth decay, osteoporosis and bone fractures, nutritional deficiencies, heart disease, food addictions and eating disorders, neurotransmitter dysfunction caused by chemical sweeteners, and neurological and adrenal disorders from excessive caffeine. .

One common problem I’ve seen over the years, especially with teenagers, is general gastrointestinal (GI) distress. This includes increased stomach acid, which requires antacids, and moderate to severe gastritis, which can cause erosion of the stomach lining. A common complaint I hear is chronic “stomach ache”. In almost all cases, when the client successfully abstains from soft drinks and caffeine, symptoms resolve. • Citric acid often contains traces of MSG, a neurotoxin.

• Artificial flavors may contain traces of MSG.

Soft drinks and violence

According to an article published in The Lancet in December 2000, the Irish government ordered “urgent research” into the effects of so-called “functional energy” or stimulant soft drinks after an 18-year-old died while playing basketball. . He consumed three cans of Red Bull, a stimulant soft drink.
