Joint Re-Leaf – A Natural Treatment Option For Osteoarthritis in Dogs
Every year, millions of dogs develop some form of arthritis. In fact, 1 in 5 dogs currently suffer from this disease. Even though arthritis, especially osteoarthritis, mainly affects older and larger dogs, by the time they are 5 years old, on average, they need to be treated for some form of arthritis.
While the structure of the human skeleton is very different from that of dogs, human joints are structured in the same way as dogs. A joint is the junction of two bones, and at this junction there is smooth cartilage that wraps around the end of each bone. Cartilage has no nerve endings and acts as a cushion for the joints, preventing pain during movement.
Like humans, many dogs suffer from osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is a condition that occurs when the cartilage that protects the joints wears away, leaving the bones exposed and moving together. Unlike cartilage, bones contain nerves, and two bones rubbing together at a joint can cause great pain, stiffness, and difficulty moving.
So why do so many dogs suffer from arthritis? Much of this has to do with their diet. The main source of protein for dogs is red meat, which contains a very high amount of uric acid. Uric acid causes crystals to build up around the joints, causing pain and becoming a major factor in many types of arthritis in dogs.
Osteoarthritis is very painful and can greatly impair your dog’s quality of life. They become slow and inactive, unwilling or unable to move as they once did, their pain is often manifested by limping, slow rising after lying down, and they do not jump as far as before. When the pain gets really bad, some dogs even lose their appetite, causing even more worrying health problems.
The current treatment for dogs with osteoarthritis is for veterinarians to prescribe NSAIDs. NSAIDs are drugs like Aleve and Motrin that are supposed to relieve pain. This treatment is not a permanent cure and may cause more harm than good. These drugs can cause side effects such as vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, or yellowing of the gums or eyes. Long-term use of these drugs can damage a dog’s liver or kidneys.
Joint Re-Leaf(TM) is a natural and safe way to treat and prevent osteoarthritis in your dog.
