Ball Pythons Vs. Boas: The Great Snake Debate
If you want to get a reptile as a pet, you should seriously consider getting a pet snake! Snakes are highly underrated pets, and they’re not as bad as many people think. They are actually quite easy to care for and handle, making them great reptile pets!
A snake needs the right housing, temperature, food and a few vital things in its enclosure and they will be the best reptiles ever. There are two common pet snakes that people often choose from – ball pythons and boas. Both are great reptile pets for those who outgrow a dog or cat. But which one should you choose?
We’re here to help you answer that!
Both ball pythons and boas for sale are common pet snakes. But they differ in many ways! Ball pythons are Old World snakes, which means they are not often found in America. Boas, on the other hand, are New World snakes, so their traditional homes are in South and North America. However, both ball pythons and boas are boids (a classification of snakes that includes anacondas).
Pythons are egg-layers, and mothers can squeeze out more than two dozen eggs with one clutch. Ball pythons also have their own morphs or body patterns, as well as a pair of upper jaw bones that are considered “premaxilla” bear teeth.
Pythons are considered by many to be majestic creatures, and certain species of these snakes are known to grow very large (such as the Burmese). But the pet ball python will not be so big! Pet ball pythons are relatively small in size and rarely reach four or five feet in length. They are docile reptiles and will jump up when threatened (hence their name). These snakes can live up to 30 years or more!
Why you want to buy boas for sale
Boas are larger snakes and usually beautiful. A huge difference between boa constrictors and ball pythons is how they give birth, with boas giving birth to live young.
They are very easy to care for and can make wonderful reptile pets for the first time owner. However, be aware that boas offered for sale are more susceptible to respiratory infections, so care must be taken when keeping them and at the right temperature. They can grow quite large and may require a larger house, which may mean multiple enclosure extensions as they grow. Boas for sale are also docile reptiles, especially if you handle them regularly (which you should).
Expect the boa to live a long time, up to 30 years. Although they do not have as large an appetite as ball pythons, adult boas need large animals to eat, including several rats or even larger prey such as rabbits.
Always buy reptiles from reputable sellers
Rule #1 when buying a reptile pet online is to buy from a reputable seller. You’ll want to make sure you get captive-bred reptile pets as well. Many snakes that you sell at pet stores or buy at shows are often caught in the wild, which can present a whole new set of problems for your reptile pets. Don’t be afraid to ask questions before buying a new reptile pet to make an informed decision! Finally, know that each snake is different and each species has its own characteristics that must be considered when choosing the right snake. A long-term commitment is essential for both snakes to thrive. So, consider these pets not just short-term investments, but rather long-term family members.
