Cruise Ships-Are You Living On a Cruise Ship Part Time?

There has been a lot of buzz lately about living full-time on a cruise ship instead of a retirement home.

However, after about 6 months, it doesn’t seem very exciting.

Ships, even cruise ships, are noisy for at least two reasons:

1. Engine noise.

No matter how new the boat is, no matter what new turbine engines are on the boat, 24 hour engine noise can reach people.

2. Parties, bars and restaurants.

There is always a kind of party atmosphere on the Cruise Ship, people eat and drink too much, no one tells you when to go to bed, you don’t have to get up the next morning, so the parties are noisy.

Staring at the ocean 2 times out of 3 days is boring.

Although there are a lot of boating activities these days, after a while you get bored of them.

The cabins are usually very small, so after a while you will miss the big living room on land with the 75 inch TV.

However, if 6 months is too long, there are other alternatives; Sailing for a few months a year.

If you follow this action, things get interesting.

Here are some options:

The $18,000 per month route:

Residensea, the world’s only floating apartment, is a 47,000-ton cruise ship that plies the oceans,

reportedly offers cabins for rent for $18,000 a month.

This cruise ship offers designer apartments with original works of art.

I mean, it’s luxury personified.

Great if you can get it.

Around the world in 102 days.

With a small luxury boat

In 2005, a 110-day round-the-world trip could cost up to $15,600 per person.

It’s $150 per person per day, including food and all facilities. That’s $9,000 per couple per month.

The same couple would spend a minimum of $4,000 a month in a nursing home.

So if they go on this 3 1/2 month world cruise it would cost them $9,000-$4,000 per month = $5,000.

Now let me tell you what this $5,000 gets you for 2 people:

The route:

Southampton,Tenerife – Canary Islands St Vincent – Cape Verde Fortaleza – Brazil Rio de Janeiro – Brazil Montevideo – Uruguay Buenos Aires – Argentina Puerto Madryn – Argentina Port Stanley – Falkland Islands Cruising around Cape Horn Ushuaia – Argentina Transit Beagle Channel Chile Arenas Chacabuco – Chile Puerto Montt – Chile Santiago – Chile Easter Island Cruise Papeete Pitcairn Island – Tahiti Bora Bora – Society Islands Pago Pago – American Samoa Lautoka – Fiji Islands Noumea – New Caledonia Brisbane – Australia Sydney – Australia Eden – Australia Philip Island – Australia Melbourne – Australia Hobart – Australia Transit Milford Sound Dunedin – New Zealand Christchurch – New Zealand Transit Marlborough Sound Wellington – New Zealand Auckland – New Zealand Nuku ‘Alofa – Tonga Apia – Western Samoa Christmas Island Honolulu – Oahu, Hawaii Kahalui – Maui Hawaii Los Angeles – USA Acapulco – Mexico Huatulco – Mexico Transit Panama Canal Curacao – Holla nd Antilles es Margherita Island – Venezuela Barbados Ponta Delgada

The luxury:

This is on a very luxurious cruise ship that only has exterior or balcony cabins.

By Freighter

In 2005, a 102-day round-the-world trip on various carriers cost $11,750 per person.

That’s $117 per person per day, including food and all facilities. That’s $7,000 a month per couple.

The same couple would spend a minimum of $4,000 a month in a nursing home.

So a 3 1/2 month round the world cruise would cost them $7,000 – $4,000 = $3,000 per month.

For this, you get a two-bed suite with accommodation for two people.

Port time is between 1 and 2 days.

The advantage is that there is a lot of space in four double suites.

The double suites each consist of two rooms, a bedroom with two separate beds and a living room.

The cabins have a shower.

Each cabin also has its own VCR and TV monitor and refrigerator.

On board there is a private passenger lounge and a common officer’s table

An indoor pool is also available.

Cruise Hopping

It’s even cheaper.

There are plenty of 7-day cruises for around $100 per day per passenger.

So you could conceivably do a 7-day cruise in the same area over and over, say the Caribbean, on the same ship, or on different ships, until you tire of the area.

You can then do the same on the west coast.

The logistics would be more difficult, because an accommodation might be needed every 7 nights.

Discounted cruise

As of 2005, there is a discount European Cruise Line operating in the Caribbean that costs $46 per person per night, but you must bring your own food.

The maximum duration of the cruise is 2 weeks.

However, you can’t get it cheaper than that.

So, if you want to live on a cruise ship, you can do it in several ways.
