How To Provide A Great Cage For Your Iguana

The vital pieces that make a good iguana cage.

When people dream of adopting an iguana, certain questions come to mind. Most often, one of the following questions will be: Where can I keep it? Many people then look for the various elements of a suitable iguana cage. If you are looking for the best iguana cage, here is a little guide for you:

1) Size is the first thing you need to know to know how big your iguana cage should be. Too many people have the misconception that the size of the enclosure limits the growth of iguanas. This is not true. Under ideal conditions, an iguana can grow up to 6 feet tall! This means you need to provide a large cage for your iguanas. In fact, most people give their iguana a whole room, not a cage!

Of course, if you are not already set up to provide this room for your pet, you may choose to postpone it until the iguana reaches its full size. However, the iguana cage you offer should be large enough to allow your iguana to do its daily activities. You must not convulse the creature in any way. If you prefer to wait until your pet reaches full size, you should at least be prepared and plan for the time when you will need a larger iguana habitat.

2) Heating – Iguanas are cold-blooded. This means that they have to regulate their body temperature by moving around in their environment. What does this mean? This means that you need to provide different temperatures in your iguana’s habitat. This is so that the iguana can travel from different places to properly regulate its body temperature. You should also aim to have a lightless heat source that is left on at night.

3) Humidity – Iguanas require high humidity to live happily. They get dehydrated easily as iguanas don’t really like to drink that much. This is due to the fact that the original habitat of iguanas has high humidity and this prevents them from drying out. Dehydration can lead to kidney problems. This means that low humidity will harm the life of your pet iguana. Another reason to keep iguanas’ habitat moist is the fact that humidity helps loosen dry scales. An iguana sheds more easily when it is in a moist environment. If you really want to keep your iguana healthy, you should recommend an iguana house with 65-75 percent humidity.

4) Lights – Iguanas need a good UVA and UVB light source. The sun is definitely the best source to use. This does not mean that you have to set up the iguana tank in a sunny location. Glass or plastic in iguana houses often filters out the UV light that iguanas need to make vitamin D3. This vitamin helps with calcium consumption. This means that if possible, let your iguana bask in direct sunlight. This is important for building strong bones and preventing metabolic bone disease, a very common cause of death among iguanas in captivity.

In addition to sunlight, the iguana’s cage must also have an artificial UVA and UVB light source. This makes up for the days when sunlight is not enough for the iguana.
