Bearded Dragon Baby – Top Tips to Take Care of Your Baby Beaded Dragon
If you’ve made the decision to buy or breed bearded dragons and need to care for a baby bearded dragon, there are some general rules you need to follow to ensure they are safe, healthy, and develop naturally into sizzling adult pet dragons.
Baby bearded dragons, like any type of baby, need extra care, especially in the areas of health and feeding, as they are more vulnerable than juveniles and adults. Bearded dragon eggs sometimes hatch in 1-3 days.
The baby uses the egg tooth to cut open the egg to free itself from the egg. When almost all the eggs have hatched, there may be some dragons that haven’t been able to hatch. If so, you may have to carefully open the eggs yourself with two fingernails, but be very careful not to injure the baby. Just cut a small incision in the end of the egg so the baby can self-harm. Leave the egg sac intact if it is still covering the baby as it will come off when it is prepared.
Feed the bearded baby dragon, being careful not to go too far. Overfeeding can put undue pressure on babies’ nerves, causing paralysis and possible death. They need a lot of food, but it is important to try this often in small portions rather than larger meals. The best food for babies would be small crickets, mealworms or wax worms.
Insects should be loaded and coated with extra vitamin powder several times a week before feeding the dragons, but every day you need to coat the insects with calcium powder. Every second or third day, slowly introduce your baby bearded dragon to vegetables, thinly chopped or grated and in small amounts.
Young bearded dragons should have more plants and fewer insects in their diet compared to a baby bearded dragon.
Currently, they deserve to offer plants every day instead of every other day. Then when they reach about 9 months of age, insects should only be fed to the dragons, two or three times a week. The insects must still be small enough for minors to handle. Currently, calcium supplements can be reduced for two or a few days, and vitamin supplements can only be reduced once a week.
If all of these things are taken care of carefully and with your baby bearded dragon’s continued health and growth in mind, there shouldn’t be any issues. Your baby dragon should grow into a healthy adult and then live for about ten years or more as a valued member of your family.
