Live Your Bliss Life

So what is this bliss and how do I get it?

The definition found online is:

Bliss: “perfect happiness; great joy.” “Achieve a state of complete happiness, typically so that you forget everything else.”

That doesn’t mean it has to be 100% of the time. The goal is to be in bliss (or a state of bliss) for any length of time.

Finding bliss is a process that I don’t think has an end, but one that becomes more enjoyable and dare I say blissful? You’ll get there, just be easy on yourself.

There are four key areas that can help you get into bliss or a ‘state of bliss’. Think of them as chips: choice, heart, purpose, and perception.

1. Choice: “making a choice or decision when faced with two or more possibilities”

Happiness is a choice. Oh, how I didn’t like hearing that the first time. What do you mean it’s a choice! I didn’t ask for these horrible things to happen to me and I should choose to be happy about it!? Have you lost your mind? How dare you tell me it’s a choice! Well, it’s kind of…

I know, I know, the sob story of your life means you can’t be happy and you can’t be happy until I meet my perfect mate, until I get rid of my current mate, until I’m rich. , until I’m debt free, until I own my own home, until I have a new car, until I get a bigger boat, and on and on.

Now you can be defiant and start with how babies don’t have a choice and therefore this can’t be true. Okay, fine, if that’s how you “choose” to see it, then so be it. And then you say, I didn’t choose it, so it is! We can continue in circles here if you want, OR

• What if… you choose a more positive perspective when looking at the situation (yes, the glass can be half full and not half empty)

• What if… you decide to find joy in the moment, at any time, in one moment

• What if… you don’t expect that thing to make me happy or that person to make me happy and you just decide to be happy, just smile already!

• What if… you laugh for a reason other than because it feels good

• What if… you decide to decide that you can make a choice to be happy and look at the good things in life and not focus on the bad

• What if… you are grateful for everything, not just the BIG things

• At first it can be difficult to come up with a list of 10 things to be grateful for. They may seem very small and “dumb”. Like my pillow. I love my pillow and my bed and the window next to it where the cool breeze can come in and my dog to lay at my feet etc. There are so many things we take for granted and don’t even think about. But if you’re someone who doesn’t have clean water or fresh air, you better believe those would be HUGE items on their list, so why not on yours?

• I am happy/calm by nature, but I understand that it’s not for everyone and that’s okay. I love my yard, it’s like my own sanctuary/park. Sometimes I just saw more work and annoying things in my yard, but now I see it as a happy place and it doesn’t feel like “work” anymore.

• It’s cool, there isn’t ONE thing for everyone, but everyone can have their own thing.

And by the way, where is it written that we should be unhappy “until” anyway? When I decided to change my perspective and look at things differently, I thought why can’t I choose to be happy! Who gets to set the rules about when and why to be happy, ME! I’m tired of other people or my old thought patterns telling me why I can’t be happy. Man, are we a negative crowd or what? How about we start talking about why we can be happy!

2. Heart: “the central or innermost part of something; I like very much; love”. Coming from your heart instead of your head is a simple way to help you find a more positive perspective. Many do not realize that their perspective comes from thought patterns that they have developed over time in their “minds”. You’re just repeating the same old thought patterns. Again, it doesn’t matter why. Don’t get stuck thinking about the why and how of these thoughts, but know that you have the power to change them. Now imagine these thoughts going through your “heart” first and over time becoming more positive, loving and uplifting. When you stop yourself, when you find yourself having another one of your same old negative thoughts, go to your heart. It may help to put your hand on your heart and then imagine seeing this situation from your heart and going through a new channel of love in your mind instead of the old channel.

3. Purpose: “a thing intended; a goal or plan”. When you wake up in the morning, what are you going to do? Do you want to be rude, kick the dog, yell at the kids, and walk out the door to that stupid job and those idiots you have to work with? I doubt anyone intentionally intends for this to be the kind of day they want to have, but so many times they end up having it.

The intention is interesting and I wonder what would happen if more people stopped and asked themselves; what is my purpose in this situation or what was their purpose in this situation? It seems so often that we believe all intentions are bad. They have “bad” intentions. I mean, shouldn’t you believe that if you’re always on the defensive? I have to get them before they get me in the mentality. Why? Do you believe they have bad intentions towards you? Do you have bad intentions towards them? Does this negative view help you or anyone?

Let me give you an example of what I mean. Let’s say your kid pulls out your favorite flowers from the garden and brings them and the dirt into your freshly cleaned house and you go ballistic. You yell at them and tell them how stupid they are and look what they’ve done! Now you have to clean again! You send them to their room and cry about your dirty carpet and the missing flowers in the garden.

Did the child mean to make a mess and destroy the flower garden? Your reaction was as if. OR did they want to unconditionally give their beloved mother the beautiful flowers they saw her admiring and surprise her with a bouquet they pulled with their own hands? Kind of stops, doesn’t it. What is their perspective now?

And what was your intention when you yelled at your child? Did you teach them a lesson? If so, what lesson are you going to teach? Do you see where I’m going here?

If you do something with good intentions and it goes badly, does that mean you did it wrong? No. If you do something with bad intentions and it turns out good, does that mean you did wrong? Yeah.

If you wake up with the intention of leveling off and I show them, what do you think your day will look like? How do you think you come across to others? And how do they respond? And when they react badly to your presence, you then say SEE, I told you so, and then you justify why you are in a bad mood! Funny how that works isn’t it. So;

• What if… when you wake up, you set the intention to have a GOOD day, to be happy, to do something nice for someone just because.

• Just lie in bed for a few extra minutes, breathing deeply and setting intentions and smiling

• What if… instead of assuming the worst about someone, you find out their intent before making a negative judgment or just start assuming they have good intentions until proven otherwise

How many disagreements and hurts could have been avoided if the purpose had been to help and heal and not to be “right” or “winning” at any cost.

4. Perspective: “a particular attitude or way of relating to something; a point of view.”

Perspective is what you want it to be. I mean, isn’t it funny how people have such different views on the same situation? How can this be? Do I need to bring up politics?

If you’ve decided (for whatever reason) that everything you do and every situation you “look at” is going to be bad or negative and you’re always going to be the victim, guess what? IT IS and YOU ARE! And hey, if you’re okay with it, more power to you, own it! But just know, you’re not going to find bliss in this state.

If you’re not okay with that and instead of continuing to behave just because it’s always been that way;

• What if… you start noticing or just admitting that you might be looking at things negatively (no matter why) and;

• What if… you stop yourself and your thoughts as soon as you realize that they are negative thoughts (views) and start replacing them with more positive thoughts and find a more positive perspective on the situation (the glass is half full or half empty).

It might be a little bumpy at first and that’s ok! It’s a process. It’s hard to stop yourself from having a pity party when you know everything. BUT if you want something different, you have to do something different.

We assume the best in situations and people. Instead of walking around with your head down assuming everyone is out to get you; keep your head up, put a smile on your face and say HELLO to a stranger! You’ll be amazed at how good it feels to do it. And you might have just made someone else’s day, and that should make you happy because we’re all in this together.

Set the intention to do well, to be good. Set the intention to love, be love, wait for love. Set the intention to live in bliss, to be happy, to live joyfully. These can also be mantras or I AM statements. I AM love, I AM bliss, I AM happy, I AM compassion, etc. and start your morning with them.

It’s okay if you’re not 100% happy all the time. You get to choose, and just knowing you can can make all the difference. If your intentions are good and your perspective is positive, it will be easier to become happy. If something goes wrong (as it will), you can give yourself time to be angry or sad and then tell yourself, okay, that’s enough, time to get on with it!

Have we found our happiness yet? Get in there and go through the process and I know you’ll get there!

Soul message: Lighten yourself up. Stop beating yourself up over every little thing. You have nothing to prove and you are beautiful souls just the way you are. You have a right to be happy and you deserve happiness just for being you. Enjoy the bliss.
