Coping With Baby Blues and Post Natal Depression

In this article, I want to offer you a few suggestions for treating the Baby Blues and Postpartum Depression (PND).

At the time when homeopathy was formalized, depression was mostly called “sadness”. And support – how much support do you get? Is everyone’s attention on the new baby and no one on you?

Sleep and free time

Lie down and sleep whenever the baby does.. I know you feel like you need to “set things up”. But sleep and rest are more important than washing.

You need time off, time for yourself. relatives can be so helpful. When my babies were little I found a girl from the local school who would come every weekday at 3:15 and babysit both kids in another room, or take them for a walk in the pram.. for two hours while I cooked dinner.

Routine Routine Routine.. life saver!!

Find a routine that works for everyone. If you know that rest periods are coming, you can cope with these feelings. We used to have tea at five, a bath at six and sleep at seven, and my husband and I would alternate days between bathing, washing the dishes and putting the babies to bed and then tea in bed the next morning. It worked great and we did it for years and years..! So every other day I knew I could bathe with the kids, relax while they slept and drink my tea in bed.

Just do what you can control

Do you stay with housework and shopping? It’s a HUGE lifestyle change to go from a regular job where you have support and boundaries to being at home with a new life. Do what you can every day. If for some reason you can’t breastfeed, don’t worry.. the baby will benefit from your love and grow strong and healthy under your care. So – these are all completely normal situations and needs and I often thought it was a wonder the new MOM didn’t show signs of mild depression!

SERIOUS SYMPTOMS OF DEPRESSION

Feeling confused, tired and a little irritable in the early months of motherhood is quite common and expected. However, sometimes it can feel like much more.

Do you have outbursts of irritability or even violent anger?

Want to shake your baby to stop crying?

Do you have suicidal thoughts?

Feel like just walking out and disappearing?

These are a few symptoms that may indicate more severe postpartum depression

Get help from your doctor, local support group and family members. Antidepressants can be helpful, but try natural remedies. And if you have a history of schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, you MUST seek help as soon as you notice postpartum depression symptoms.

Homeopathy can really help and you also need daily support and companionship, exercise, good sleep, good food, hugs and treats, and lots of smiles and laughter.

This wonderful medicine has helped many thousands of women around the world. You feel a little numb, emotionless, very tired and irritable, and have no libido at all. You have a pulling sensation in your stomach, your periods are heavy and painful. Look at the mirror. Do you and your nose have saddle marks, either yellowish or slightly darker, maybe freckles? This is a classic sepia symptom.

2. NAT MUR

Famous for treating depression, Nat Mur is basically ordinary salt made into a powerful medicine. Do you feel like crying and like you can’t cope, but you don’t want to show or tell anyone about it. In fact, anyone offers sympathy that really annoys you! You will find that you feel cold most of the time with physical weakness and lack of stamina. Other symptoms can be headache, thirst more than usual, lips feel dry and maybe even cracked.

3. IGNATIA

This is a medicine that seems to be full of contradictory premises. Are you anxious and constantly checking that the baby is okay? Do you find your moods change often? Sigh a lot! People will notice and maybe ask what you’re sighing about. What about coffee and tobacco… Ignatia can’t stand smells or tastes… so this would be a pretty strong symptom after the baby. Worried about your weight? Are you considering diets to lose the pounds gained during pregnancy? These are all good signs that Ignatia would be useful for you.

4. STAPHISAGRIA

We give this medicine after a caesarean section for a quick recovery of desire and if the woman has been feeling angry or upset throughout the birth. Do you find that you need to talk to people about your birth experience, especially if there are things that have upset you emotionally? A couple of doses of Staph will release all these feelings and allow you to move forward in a positive frame of mind.

5. KALI PHOS

I put all new moms on this tissue salt twice a day for at least a few months after the baby is born. It helps bring your energy levels back up gently and can make sleep deeper and more refreshing.

6. ARS ALB

Come on, friends of Ars Alb…don’t be offended by these questions! Are you really anxious and scared about the whole motherhood thing? Are you constantly afraid that your baby will get sick? Do you need everything neat and in place? The house must be clean and all washing done; shopping and meals ready and on the table; the baby should be clean and tidy in case guests come? Do you really need someone else close by that you can rely on if the worst happens?

It’s okay!! This is your nature and there is nothing wrong with it.

Well, your natural anxieties may be causing you more stress than you need right now.. and a dose of Ars Albia every now and then will really help you cope better with your own inner urges. A couple of other physical symptoms that Ars Albi people usually experience are.. often feeling cold, doesn’t sleep easily, usually feels better in warm dry weather, loves acidic foods and drinks and especially coffee.

7. LAKESIS

This drug has quite clear symptoms during this period. You feel worse when you wake up in the morning – kind of sluggish and can’t think straight. You desperately need a nap in the afternoon, but you know you’ll feel bad again when you wake up from your nap. You will feel better if you can talk to a friend or relative and openly express all your concerns. Talking makes you feel better!

You don’t like hot places, you can’t stand wearing anything tight around your waist, and you usually have physical problems like a sore throat more on the left side of your body.

8. PULSATILLA

Imagine a small pulsating flower alone in the middle of the vast Russian steppes. It blows in the wind here and there! It sits in sandy soil and closes its petals when it gets hot and at night. SO – a pulsatilla woman loves the fresh air and finds her moods very variable. He can be cold and cries very easily…sometimes just cries for no particular reason. You like sympathy and support and rely on your partner for comfort. Not thirsty? it’s very pulsating.. you have to remind yourself to drink. (If you’re breastfeeding, your body will give you stronger thirst signals than usual.)

Are you also a bit clumsy and uncoordinated? Swollen ankles and wrists? Don’t like fatty foods? These are just a selection of medications that I have prescribed with great success over the past 20 years for baby blues and postpartum depression.
