Ho’oponopono and Self Identity

It is an updated version of an ancient Hawaiian problem-solving process that includes repentance, forgiveness, and transmutation. Self-Identity Through Ho’oponopono was developed by Morrnah Nalamaku Simeona and is currently taught by Ihaleakala Hew Len, Ph.D.

We referred to it as a settlement tool or a problem-solving method. Both are correct. Honestly, when we started doing Ho’oponopono, we did it as a trial run. It was difficult for us to understand, let alone accept, that we are 100% responsible for everything that happens in our lives. Surely there are people around us who share responsibility for certain effects?

Yet, all this evidence has begun to build. First we did Ho’oponopono on the freeway when it was congested/blocked/stuck and still made it to work on time. Then we tried it when we negotiated and Ho’oponopono worked like magic. I would speak to someone on the phone who clearly told me that what I wanted them to do was against their policy and not possible and after 3 silent Ho’oponoponos they gave me what I wanted.

We know that these simple things are not frustrating. And maybe it’s a coincidence. But when it works every day, in all kinds of things, one begins to be convinced. Crying children are comforted when I do Ho’oponopono in their presence. A five-year-old girl who develops a very active pain body (Tolle terms) and cries at every little imagined or real provocation seems to find comfort whether I say Ho’oponopono or she says it. It has the shortened version: “I’m sorry.”

Dr. Hew Len explains that the mind has three parts. The superconscious mind is associated with the cosmos, divinity, original creative intelligence, or infinite and divine intelligence. The soul includes both the conscious and subconscious mind. When we come to this world, we come from the Void. Our identity originated in the Void. To return to our identity, we must work to reclaim the Void. We do this by erasing our memories, habitual ways, and automatic responses. Ho’oponopono is a petition to divine intelligence to clear or transform our memories into light or emptiness.

As we regain our self-identity in the void, we are open to divine inspiration through our superconscious mind. This requires ongoing accounting through Ho’oponopono. Emptiness is the common ground of all Self-identities, explains Dr. Hew Len. It is “the indestructible and timeless foundation of the entire cosmos.”

The Ho’oponopono process:

Thomas Troward would say it is our connection to the cosmic mind. The cosmic mind consists of two parts, the essential being and the active force. The first is love, light, strength, beauty and joy, and the second is the universal spirit that provides movement and flow. If we connect to them, we will be in harmony with the conscious creation of reality. When we are full of memories and unconsciously act on those memories, we create reality, but unconsciously. To correct this, we seek self-identity through Ho’oponopono.

Our conscious mind initiates the Ho’oponopono petition to transform memories into light or emptiness. Takes 100% responsibility for the given problem. Just experiment. Try. As you begin to experience the effects of Ho’oponopono, it becomes clear that we are 100% responsible. If we weren’t 100% responsible, our Ho’oponopó wouldn’t have the huge impact it has. (Eckhardt Tolle would explain that this is one way to detach from what he calls the ego and thus achieve enlightenment.)

Once the petition is made, the Conscious Mind accepts that the problem is “memories replaying in the subconscious”. The petition is transferred to the subconscious. This movement evokes memories for transmutation. The petition moves from the subconscious mind to the superconscious mind.

The superconscious mind reviews the petition and makes the necessary changes, as Dr. Hew Len explains. The petition is then sent to the Divine Intelligence for consideration. The divine intelligence then sends transmuting energy down through the superconscious mind, through the conscious mind into the subconscious mind. The memories causing the problem are neutralized and released.

Memories never rest and never sleep. It takes constant cleansing to regain self-identity. Until the conscious mind is awakened, it is unaware of the gift of self-identity which is inspiration, and as Dr. Hew Len says, “A riches beyond all understanding.” Dr. Hew Len goes further and states that the physical world we experience is either an expression of replaying memories or inspirations within the soul of Self-Identity. As the state of Self-Identity changes, so does the state of the physical world.

The process consists of four parts:

1) “I love you.” It’s because of the memories. Use it again and again, because even if you are not aware of the problems, it helps clear those memories and allows a clear channel of inspiration to flow from divine intelligence.

2) “I’m sorry.” This is an acknowledgment of your responsibility for creating, accumulating, or accepting memories that replay and cause trouble.

3) “Please forgive me.” This is a later petition for causing trouble.

4) Ask for the transformation, neutralization and release of memories. This is the domain of Divine Intelligence. This is followed by “thank you”.

The effect:

We have mentioned some of the effects we have seen, but Dr. Hew Len worked on inmates in an insane asylum and the results were amazing. He treated them without meeting the inmates as a therapist. He looked over their graphs and when he had a feeling about them, he cleaned them up. According to the first results, the staff felt less threatened and vulnerable. Patients/prisoners required less medication and were less frequently restricted. Then some started getting better. They were given a chance to have some free time, which had not happened before, and eventually all but one regained their mental health.

Dr. Hew Len took 100% responsibility and worked only on his feelings, asking for his own memories to be cleansed and transmuted, and the patients were healed one by one. As Dr. Hew Len told Joe Vitale, have you ever known a mental health worker who had mentally healthy patients? Wouldn’t it be obvious that the common denominator is the therapist? When the therapist regains his identity, his patients recover as well.

Another benefit of keeping the therapist clean is inspired work. And it will work for any relationship, family or business, car on the highway or potential customer. Joe Vitale uses this in his books and found that the books he ignored didn’t do as well as the ones he “loved”. Once you do the Ho’oponopono and send love and apologies to your less-visited books, sales will skyrocket.

We wish you good luck and self-identity. As you read more of Eckhart Tolle’s work, you will see the connection between Tolle’s drama-seeking ego and Hew Len’s subconscious memories.

As Dr. Hew Len says, “Clean, clean, and go back to the harbor – the Void from which we all came.” This self-identity through Ho’oponopono.
