Potty Training – How to Potty Train Your Toddler in Just One Day

As you know, potty training in childhood can be a test of parents’ patience. This can be a period of upheavals, disappointments, one step forward and two steps back. And sometimes potty training can be a very long and drawn out experience and something that we moms can dread. Wet and dirty underwear, surprises left on the floor and the thought “will my child ever learn how to use the toilet”?

My daughters are now 16 and almost 12. They were potty trained when they were about 2-1/2 years old. And they trained in one day! Everyone laughed at me when I told them this. The moms at the dinner party looked blank and thought I was confused when I wanted to share my enthusiasm until they called me weeks later and asked how I did it?

How my kids were raised in a day and yours can be too!

Well, it was something like that. When Alicia, my oldest, was ready to be potty trained, I didn’t really know what to do other than sit on a potty and hope for the best. Then one day I was shopping with a friend whose kids were teenagers but she used a system to toilet train her kids in a single day. And he told me, “It really worked!” Well, the next week I invited him to coffee, sat him down, and asked him every specific detail that he did.

Get ready for a day of potty training

* a doll that can soil itself.

* a very sturdy potty chair with a container that can be emptied and placed back in the chair,

* lots of drinks, salty food and delicacies,

* underwear about 2 sizes too big,

* pocket apron.

Potty training day

On the morning of training day, make sure no one is home. Put a note on the door explaining that you don’t want to be interrupted, then turn on the answering machine and turn off your cell phone. For the rest of the day, give all your attention to your child and follow the instructions on the toilet training plan. First, train your child to potty train the baby. This gives him the idea of why and how to go to the toilet. You have to learn how to take your baby to the potty in time, take off your pants, wait for the baby to pee, pull up your pants, then empty the potty (with the fake urine) into the toilet, then put the potty back in the potty chair. Your child should also enthusiastically praise the baby and give a reward if the baby goes to the potty and is small.

Then when your child has learned to train the baby to go to the potty chair, it’s time to train your child to go to the toilet using the same steps. Here, give him plenty of drinks so he has plenty of time to go to the toilet. teach him one step at a time how to easily put his pants on and take them off (if two sizes too big really helps), how to sit on the toilet (potty chair) and rest until he urinates or defecates. How to wipe yourself off, pull up your panties, empty the bowl into the toilet, then put yourself back on the potty.

And don’t forget to teach your child to wash their hands every time.

Rewards and Praise

Your child should be rewarded as he learns and for his good behavior. Then teach your child what to do in case of an accident, how to go to the toilet when playing, and how to get to the toilet when playing outside. You can get rewards and praise for having dry pants, especially after you realize you’re going to the toilet.

You don’t have to change diapers in bed that night. Leave the night light on and place the tummy chair near your bed. The next day we celebrate with him and give him a certificate for toilet training. Yes, it can happen and yes, your child can be potty trained in a day!

I believe you can do it too if you know how…

Step by step

1. Prepare your child by reading books such as I Want My Potty by Tony Ross, Max Potty by Harriet Ziefert, or All My Own by Dr. Bill Gillham. Ask your child to watch family members go to the toilet to see what happens and how to do it.

2. Prepare necessary items such as large pants, wipes, a self-wetting baby and a sturdy potty chair, or make your home toilet suitable with a padded seat and steps or a box for your child to stand on. .

3. Allow a day without interruption to train your child to toilet train the baby, and then teach him the steps of toileting.

4. Enthusiastically praise your child when he does anything and clap and cheer when he actually urinates or defecates in the toilet and/or potty.

5. At the end of the day when your child is successfully potty trained or the next day, celebrate and give your child a certificate
